Boswellia has a long history as a pain reducer, but it is only in the past decade that scientific research has been able to validate that Boswellia possesses legitimate pain reducing properties, equal in potency to some of the NSAIDs such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen, without the side effects. The active components in Boswellia are the Boswellic acids that possess Analgesic (pain Killer) properties. In particular, Boswellia blocks one of the most damaging inflammatory pathways known as the 5-Lipooxygenase Pathway, which is responsible for the production of the group of violent molecules known as Leukotrienes. Leukotrienes are extremely hostile and inflict serious damage to our joints, tendons and connective tissues. Boswellia ‘locks in’ and targets on the enzyme 5-Lipooxygenase (5-LOX) which is necessary for the production of these damaging leukotrienes. By blocking these harmful leukotrienes, Boswellia effectively decreases pain, swelling and joint destruction.
